Bord Iascaigh Mhara Water Conservation Tool

With the ever increasing cost of water supply, Bord Iascaigh Mhara (BIM) has developed this on-line Water Conservation Tool to assist seafood companies reduce water costs. Wasteful use of water can cost seafood companies thousands of euros each year, yet it is one of the areas that is most often overlooked when it comes to making quick and easy monetary savings. This Water Conservation Tool provides information and tips to assist you reduce your water use throughout the processes in your factory.

Making savings on your water considers the following three areas:

Water Supply:
This is the water you pay for, and while rates around the country vary, it is the first area that you, as a business, should be on top of.

Water Use:
Every seafood factory uses water in different ways, but there are always ways to reduce the amount you use.

Other Water Costs:
The hidden costs of water – even if you have your own water supply or harvest rainwater, there are still costs associated with it – pumping, treating and storing.

By working through these three aspects of water use in your business you can ensure that you are water efficient, and therefore only paying for water that you need and use.

Best Practice Note:
Working on and improving your water use will require a bit of work to figure out. For this to be done properly will require a dedicated person to do the investigating and follow up. If you are serious about improving your water use and saving money, assign this task to one person and give them time each week to do the various tasks required.
