LAPD is now Closed
The Local Authority Prevention Demonstration Programme (LAPD), 2006 - 2009, is now closed.
LAPD has been superceded by the Local Authority Prevention Network (LAPN). Go to the LAPN website here.
What was the LAPD?
The LAPD was an innovative and successful programme, which aimed to empower Irish local authorities to promote waste prevention initiatives in their locality.
LAPD was implemented by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and was part of the Irish National Waste Prevention Programme (NWPP).

Who was involved?
The EPA implemented the LAPD and the Clean Technology Centre, CIT, were advisors to the scheme.
14 Local authorities put waste prevention programmes and projects in place as part of LAPD.
 Results of the LAPD
The results of the LAPD Programme are summarised in this 2010 report, produced by CTC.

What is the LAPN?
Through LAPN, 12 local authorities from across the country are now receiving financial support from the EPA, technical support from the EPA and CTC and are active on prevention based proejcts – where RETHINK is replacing Reduce, Reuse and Recycle as the best option.

Phase I
There were 3 major programmes in Phase I of the LAPD involving 7 local authorities.
Phase II
There were 7 projects being implemented by 7 local authorities in Phase II of LAPD.
