CTC Assessment of Irish Times Group (2019-2022)

The Clean Technology Centre (CTC) carried out a detailed carbon footprint assessment for the Irish Times Group (ITG) over four years (2019-2022). As part of ITG’s commitment to sustainability, CTC followed the Greenhouse Gas Protocol and ISO 14064 standards to measure and analyse carbon emissions across 21 locations in Ireland. This included main offices, regional offices, radio stations, and transmitter sites.

CTC’s approach involved a comprehensive assessment of ITG’s direct (Scope 1) and indirect (Scope 2) emissions, which included data collection on fuel consumption, electricity usage, and transportation activities. In addition to the on-site assessment of the three main sites. The project started with establishing organisational boundaries and setting 2019 as the base year for monitoring progress. CTC ensured the carbon inventory was accurate and reliable by carefully checking and verifying data from various sources, including utility bills, internal records, and fleet management information.

The quantification identified key sources of emissions, including natural gas, diesel, heating oil, electricity, and transport fuels. CTC provided ITG with a detailed breakdown of emissions by site and activity, highlighting areas for improvement and setting benchmarks for future reductions. Additionally, CTC recommended setting up a centralised system to track resource consumption for more efficient future mentoring and reporting.

CTC’s carbon footprint quantification not only gave ITG a clear understanding of its environmental impact but also set a plan for carbon management and reduction initiatives. This project showcases CTC’s expertise in helping businesses achieve sustainability goals through data-driven insights and compliance with international standards.

With a track record of delivering high-quality carbon footprint assessments and actionable recommendations, CTC supports organisations in their journey toward reducing environmental impact and enhancing sustainability.
